Xbox Support: Disabling Xbox DVR in Windows 10


You can use the Game DVR feature of the Xbox app in Windows 10 to record videos of your PC game play and upload them to any social site, easily via the app’s Game Bar. We have seen how to use the Game DVR Windows 10, now let us see how to disable Game DVR of Xbox app on Windows 10, if you have no need for it. Towards the end of this post, we will also show you how to Disabling Xbox DVR in windows 10 through the Registry Editor.

You can pop up the “Game Bar” with a simple shortcut, Win+G and get quick access to gaming features. The functionality of this bar is not limited to capturing visuals running on video games played on the device but also take screenshots of the game clips.

The Game DVR feature allows you to record your gameplay in the background. It is located on the Game Bar – which offers buttons to record gameplay & takes screenshots using the Game DVR feature. But it can slow your gaming performance by recording video in the background.

Disabling Xbox DVR in Windows 10 through Xbox app

If you are signed into an Xbox account in windows 10 you can stop Xbox DVR from running by opening the Xbox app and following the step below:

Step 1: Access the Settings menu by clicking the cog in the bottom left of the screen:

Step 2: Click on ‘Game DVR’ near the top of the window and look for ‘Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR’:

Step 3: Toggle this setting off to disable Game DVR:

Disabling Xbox DVR in Windows 10 through Registry Editor

If you do not have an Xbox account and are not signed into the Xbox App you can disable Xbox DVR by using the Registry Editor.

Step 1: Open Registry Editor (Run > regedit)

Step 2: Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore

Step 3: Set the value of DWORD “GameDVR_Enabled” to 0

Step 4: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\

Step 5: Create key “GameDVR”.

Step 6: Create DWORD 32bit called “AllowGameDVR” and set to 0

Step 7: Restart your computer.
