Truth or Myth: Does Increasing the Stakes in Online Slots Increase the Chances of Winning the Jackpot?
The online gambling industry has grown significantly over the past decade. Right now, the industry is estimated to be worth $50 million with the projection looking to increase by next year. It is, perhaps for this reason that a large percentage of the population wants a piece of this pie. Punters are in the quest to find easier ways through which they can win the huge prizes that are offered. The huge prizes are either the jackpots, preferably the progressive ones, or the symbols with the greatest value in a particular slot.
Perhaps it is this greed for the ‘secret’ to winning the slots that have led players to buy books that promise to give them tips on how to land the huge wins. Others have heavily invested in software that will ‘rig’ the systems and give them huge wins, faster. Imagine their disappointment when they find out that the ebooks and software they invested in, are just another sham to get them to spend money. Someone will definitely go home richer. It, however, sure ain’t the punter.
No Way to Manipulate the Gaming Machine
You almost can’t rig a slot machine. When the slot machines are made, a microchip with a system known as the Random Number Generation system (RNG) is incorporated into the gaming machine. Every time you play, the numbers or symbols that appear on the reels are as a result of the RNG system. The RNG is constantly in function whether there is someone playing the slot or not. This means that if you take a break for say 5 minutes, the symbols the slot will generate will not be the same ones it would have generated had you kept on playing without taking the break.
So why is it that most wins are usually from the symbols with the lower values? We are glad you asked. See, the symbols with the lower values are made in such a way that they are heavier. For this reason, every time a spin stops, the heavier symbols will tend to land on the active paylines. You will, therefore, need to do your due diligence on the slot in order to find out which of the values pays the highest as well as what the jackpot prize is and whether it is a progressive jackpot or not.
Besides the RNG, there is a specific Return to Player (RTP) assigned to every slot. Return to Player is a percentage of the amount played that has to be returned to players by the casino hosting the slot. RTPs are usually between 90% to 99%. Here’s the trick though. You will not really experience the payout at that percentage. This is especially true if you are one to play using small bankroll. However, if you play using huge amounts and for a long while, say about 600 spins at $100 per spin, then you will be able to experience the RTP and payouts as a set. Important to remember is that the RTP for each game is set during the making of the slot. This means that if the game is genuine, then there is no way a casino can manipulate the RTP and it will remain the same across all casinos. This applies for all games including real money online roulette.
With the knowledge that we have gathered on slots so far, the question that lingers still is whether the chances of winning a slot game can be increased by increasing the amount of money you bet. The answer is no and yes depending on the way you look at it.
For many slots, it was realized that the Return to Player (RTP) percentage kept increasing the amount staked. This means that if the slot has an RTP pf say 92.6% for bets of amounts up to $1, then the payout for someone that deposits $5 increases to about 93%. The RTP kept increasing for each increasing wager meaning the higher amount you stake, the higher your RTP and, therefore, the more you would be getting from your wins. The increasing RTP does not affect the RNG of the slot meaning your chances of winning are still dependent on how the numbers are generated by the system.
You cannot win a progressive jackpot unless you place the maximum bet. This would, therefore, mean that for you to stand an opportunity at the progressive jackpot, you would have to deposit the full stake amount or all your bets will only be to contribute to the progressive jackpot pool. No matter how often you play, not placing the maximum bet amount means that you will be skipped for the jackpot win consideration.
From the analysis carried out above, it is quite evident that increasing your stake does contribute to a high payout if you win. If playing the progressive jackpot, playing with the highest stake allowed is the only way you can stand a chance at winning in these games. What remains clear, however, is that higher stakes do not alter the RNG and so your chances of winning do not increase when you increase your stake. The best part is that the higher your bankroll, the more money you will be taking home. This will only be possible if, and when you win.
