As part of its Welcome Offer of Reliance Jio has been offering its services completely free since its launch to test out the network before launching commercial operations. This offer was invented to end on December 31, 2016, but current rumors recommend that Reliance Jio will extend the offer for still more time.
According to Business paper Mint report, “Jio’s make a planning that it would dishonorable to charge customers until Jio management is fully satisfied with the quality of service.”
At a press conference on Thursday, Anshuman Thakur, Reliance Jio’s head of strategy and planning, “we have told Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and government that customers have faced some issue with relate to the quality of service due to the interconnection congestion and that they deserve a better services and because of that issue they have not been able to enjoy the services and what we want to deliver to them. And till when we are in that position to deliver the quality of service as preferred by the Jio management, it will be unfair to charge customer.”
According to a new report, Reliance Jio has informed Market analysts that Jio will extend its welcome Offer until March 2017, an extra three months.
A telecom operator cannot offer a plan with free services for more than 90 days as said by TRAI. Though, analysts at Citi Research have been reportedly informed by Reliance Industries management that there were no limitations on the number of promotional offers a company can launch.
Jio has also called out existing operators such as Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea, for not providing enough points of interconnect – it will let users from one network to speak to users on the other networks. TRAI is allows for its free-calls-for-life plans, but TRAI also stated that Jio’s Welcome offer had to end on December 3.
A Jio spokesperson said about the Jio Welcome Offer benefits of free unlimited Voice and data will be available to all subscribers until December 31,2016.” But now the “JWO will be available to new consumers for subscription up to December 3, 2016.”
The company has not made any official statement on the matter for now, the question is whether TRAI will allow this to happen or now, soon we should know more about it.
